Deskripsi Pekerjaan

You will:

Coordinate and deliver learner-centred English language courses, curriculum development, administration and student support, under the direction and guidance of the CEO and relevant CQUEnglish management, in accordance with relevant legislative requirements and accreditation guidelines governing the provision.        

You are responsible for:


Planning and teaching courses at a range of levels including English for Academic Purposes courses.


Designing, delivering, evaluating and providing feedback on English language teaching material and assessments for a range of English language courses in accordance with CQUniversity policy and procedures


Keeping up-to-date with industry best practice in the English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) sector.


Coordinating the effective operations of the English Language Centre, ensuring appropriate management of class requirements, including timetabling, rosters, resources, academic counselling, curriculum development, educational outcomes and advice and student assessment.


Coordinating staffing, including recruitment, induction, professional development and performance management in relation to teaching and administration, including teacher evaluations; and managing the interface with other administrative infrastructure, such as the school, marketing, student administration, student counselling, and financial administration.


Ensuring that quality procedures and policies are followed around both academic and non-academic activities, including administration, student placement, student support services, program delivery, administration and evaluation.


Ensuring that when the position holder is not on-site, an appropriately qualified staff member is available to act during the period of absence as per NEAS requirements.


Providing outreach to academic and professional staff to raise their knowledge of issues relating to English language studies and proficiency requirements.


Ensuring the English Language Centre operates within budget and is responsible for the welfare of staff and students during curricular and extra-curricular activities.


Organising and participating in Study Tours, as required, with guidance from relevant management.


Ensuring the provision of appropriate, up-to-date resources to support and enhance the curriculum.


Providing academic and basic general counselling support to students and referring to specialist services, as appropriate.


Providing input into fee-setting and course development, and identifying opportunities for improvements to service delivery.


Contributing to the marketing of English Language courses locally and in accordance with the relevant recruitment strategies.


Assisting with planning and hosting international visits from recruitment agents when required.


Overseeing the Monitoring Academic Progress (MAP) and Attendance Monitoring processes for relevant ESL students.


Managing the orientation process for English Language students in consultation and coordination with School course teams and central service areas.


Implementing processes to ensure that accurate records are created for all English Language students within the CQU Executive Business Training Centre’s student management system.


Any other duties as directed, commensurate with the scope and classification of the position.

As a supervisor you are responsible for:


Providing mentoring, guidance and career planning for your staff and ensuring staff have access to appropriate professional development activities.


Undertaking probationary and performance management processes ensuring you have regular conversations with your staff and provide real-time, positive and constructive feedback to empower staff to continually improve and enhance staff and team performance.


Understanding your responsibilities associated with approving staff leave and ensuring leave is approved in line with operational requirements.


Allocating and monitoring workload and address associated issues in a timely manner.


Ensuring new staff participate in the university’s induction program and providing a localised work area orientation.


Developing mechanisms to promote staff recognition.

·      A recognised degree or equivalent.

·      Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) qualification at postgraduate diploma level or above.

·      At least five years full-time equivalent experience in teaching and/or coordination of TESOL programs at adult or secondary level.



·      Sound knowledge of NEAS accreditation requirements, ESOS obligations and an understanding of the broad regulatory environment relating to international students.

·      Commitment to continuous development of TESOL knowledge and skills.


·     Experience in teaching a range of levels in a range of contexts including English for Academic Purposes to university age students.

·     A demonstrated focus on quality teaching and commitment to continuous development of TESOL knowledge and skills.

·     Experience and ability to manage a budget.

·     Ability to manage staff performance including experience conducting teacher evaluations.

·     Highly developed interpersonal and cross-cultural skills, excelling in written and oral communication, with an ability to negotiate and liaise with internal and external stakeholders resulting in a high level of customer service.

·     Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills and an ability to work independently or as part of a team, manage work, meet deadlines and resolve problems with minimal supervision and guidance in a demanding work environment.

Other job requirements

  • This role will require some work outside of non-standard hours associated with maintaining international relationships.
